Event Wear!

Hi everyone! Melissa here. Some of you may know me because I’m 1 of 3 personal shoppers for the Thrift Stylist program here at Arc’s Value Village! OR, maybe you have just seen me around because I’m there during the day almost every weekday. OR maybe my face looks familiar because I’ve been reposted on Arc’s social media or on Thrift Stylists social media 😉 Either/or, I’m so excited because not only am I involved with The Arc as a personal shopper and stylist, but now I’ll be writing a blog post once per month focusing on a theme that’s relatable AND in-season!

If you are familiar with me, you probably know by now that I own a styling company called, MH Style Consulting. I’ve been styling men and women for over 16 years now! #TimeFlies. Whether it’s personal shopping or it’s me going through their closets to decide what to keep, what to donate (to Arc, of course), how to pair things up to make new outfits with items they already own and what to focus on moving forward such as necklines, colors, etc., I just love helping people! Most importantly, I like to do it in a way where my clients don’t have to spend a lot of $$ getting to the place where they want to be, fashionably. So with that being said, let me help YOU in my monthly blog posts, yeah? So here we go…

Come June, Minnesota is bursting at the seams with events because the sun is finally shining, it’s warm (except for today as I’m sitting on my patio with long sleeves, long workout pants and a blanket wrapped around me while I’m writing this..I’ll take anything weather-wise as long as it’s not rain or snow) and SCHOOL’S OUT!

What are the most popular events? Well, being an event planner as well (yes, I have 2 businesses), it’s definitely those weddings and graduations, don’t you agree?! The nice thing about events, especially with the culture here in Minnesota, is that we don’t have to dress up, dress up (unless it says formal wear on the invite, of course). This means that something you typically wear to work or casually for brunch or running errands, you can make it fitting for an event!

My Thrifted Picks (Or pics?! Pun intended) For Weddings:

    • Maroon Floral Monteau Dress: $5.99
    • Green Necklace: $4.99
    • Nude Purse: $3.99
    • Nude Nine West Flats: $6.99

  • Black Jumpsuit: $9.99
  • Floral Bomber: $7.99

PS – you could TOTALLY wear these to graduation parties! Just change out the shoes and/or accessories.

Thrifted Picks For Graduations:

  • Pink Tahari Blazer: $9.99
  • Navy Dress: $6.99

Side note: If you have a flowy dress and you feel like you don’t have a shape in it because there’s no “waist line”, throw a jacket over it! I promise, it helps!

  • White Seafolly Linen Blouse: $5.99
  • Dockers Blue and White Pinstripe Capris: $5.99
  • Yellow Jessica Simpson Pumps: $8.99
  • Brown Liz Claiborne Purse: $3.99

Some more tips and tricks: Not a heel person? Wear a yellow (or any color, really) pointed toe flat / loafer. Why a pointed toe? It will elongate the look, as well as, make it balanced. Trick if you’re hesitant on the pointed toe look: Put one rounded toe flat on and a pointed toe flat on the other while looking in the mirror. You’ll see, and know, what I’m talking about 😉

Think your feet are too big for a pointed toe? Try a modern square toe, great alternative!

Scared of those bunions? Italian leather is the key to success!

If you’re a petite person like me, you’ll want a little height due to the length of capris. With that, try a wedge if, again, you’re not a heel person!

I hope these outfit ideas help you this month! If you still need help, you know where to reach me! See you next month!
