Imagine

Imagine by John Lennon

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky

Imagine all the people
Livin’ for today
Ah

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too

Imagine all the people
Livin’ life in peace
You

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

‘Imagine’ by John Lennon released on this day in 1971. Often considered Lennon’s signature work, it is not surprising the important part that Yoko Ono played in creating the perfect call-for-peace song. It’s a big topic with a simple style, and has touched millions of people in 50 years. It is more relevant than ever today. I have always loved the sound of this song, and loved Cindy Blackman’s version when she covered it in her husband’s (Carlos Santana) concert.

As a marketer, my optimistic attitude is key because I must always imagine that change is possible, and that I can make change happen. It is a fundamental  job requirement. As an employee of a social service nonprofit organization, it is additionally important. Our sole purpose of Arc’s Value Village is to raise as much money as possible to provide funding for the work done by The Arc Minnesota. We are change makers, and together as a thrift store, as an organization, and as a community we are imagining and making change together.  One of our slogans is ‘Be A Villager’ and I like to reinforce the message that it takes a Village, and together we can all succeed. We are all going through difficult times right now, and sometimes it feels like our society is broken. I inspire you to remember the song, take a deep breath, stay positive, and imagine what we can do and the change we can make. You may say I’m a dreamer / but I’m not the only one / I hope someday you’ll join us / and the world will live as one. Thank you for supporting Arc’s Value Village. And thank you to the artists who create inspiring music to remind us!
