BOO-it-yourself at Arc’s Value Village for the best costumes this Halloween!
Social media icons, a tutu, and wings – you’re a social butterfly, says Asa DeCarlo.
Sarah Colvin picked an old bridesmaid’s dress and instantly you have a costume for Elsa from “Frozen.”
Whether you’re dying to channel the latest and greatest characters straight from the silver screen or prefer more quirky, outside-of-the box looks, Arc’s Value Village Thrift Store & Donation Center is the place to go when looking for unique looks this Halloween. More than 75,000 costumes, makeup products, and accessories are currently available for purchase in Arc’s Value Village Halloween BOO-tique™, open now at all four stores in Richfield, St. Paul, New Hope and Brooklyn Center. Guests shopping for costumes are encouraged to “BOO-it themselves,” and use the stores to gather ideas and materials for truly one-of-a-kind Halloween costumes. For those not quite sure where to start, each BOO-tique also has pre-packaged and pre-assembled costumes that are ready to wear the moment you step outside the store. Value Village BOO-Crew are also always on hand to help provide suggestions and look for items for those wanting to piece together looks themselves.
“The BOO-tique is an amazing place to come and get inspired and find ideas,” said Asa DeCarlo, one of Arc’s Value Village personal shoppers. She and fellow Value Village personal shopper Sarah Colvin shared countless ideas for standout statement Halloween costumes in a recent Channel 12 segment.
Some of the looks DeCarlo and Colvin pulled together include a secondhand bridesmaid gown eerily similar to the one Elsa dons in Disney’s Frozen, a “queen bee” costume (think traditional yellow and black bee striped outfit paired with a tiara and glam jewelry), and a “social butterfly” (wings, antennas, and a stretchy leotard with social media icons attached). For those who are still unsure about a thrifted Halloween costume, Colvin advised, “Come with an open mind and I’m sure you’ll find something fabulous.” Not sure what you want to be just yet? “Zombies, of course!” said DeCarlo.
Costumes aren’t all you’ll find in store, however. Each location is also filled with all sorts of haunting Halloween and fall-themed decorations and delights perfect for transforming your home into one spooky dwelling. Since the BOO-tiques are stocked exclusively by donations, shoppers are encouraged to go green and donate their Halloween costume or unwanted decor back to a Value Village location once the holiday is over to begin preparing to stock next year’s BOO-tiques. The BOO-tiques are open at all four Arc Value Village locations 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday-Friday as well as 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The BOO-tique section of the Value Village website, along with the Arc’s Value Village Pinterest board, are also great sources for costume inspiration!
