Gala Season Made Easy: Creative Outfit Ideas You Can Thrift

Tis the season for galas✨ All the sparkle, shine, food, music, and all for great causes. When the day comes it’s always a good time, but leading up to it, not so much. For most of my clients (and people I know personally), it always seems to be a struggle to find something to wear. Typically galas are black tie events so it’s a dress-to-impress type of situation which, post-covid, isn’t so common. We either don’t need to impress anyone because we work from home or our wardrobe for the workplace has become much more casual.

Gala Dresses & Suits

When you think of a black tie gala, what do you automatically imagine? Probably a dress and suit, right? Most likely, yes. However, as I mentioned above, we don’t dress that way on an everyday basis. We don’t typically have a gown or a nice suit lying around – okay, maybe guys do have a suit lying around, but has there been dust collecting on it? Is it an updated style? Does it even fit? 

On another note, how many galas or black-tie events are you going to on a yearly basis? Probably not a lot. This is where thrifting comes into play! Whenever you go to Arc’s Value Village for a gala look, just know you won’t be spending a fortune. If you buy a brand new look, you’re probably looking at $250 to a couple thousand. At Arc, I would say you could find something starting at $15, but mostly likely no more than $60!!

So what if you don’t want to wear a dress? What if you don’t want to wear a typical navy or black suit? Here are some great alternatives that you can easily find at Arc’s Value Village:

Jumpsuit w/ a skirt: This look is sometimes hard to find. You can always purchase a dress, a pair of slim fit ankle pants, visit a seamstress and have them make a slit!

Velvet suit: Menswear for women is a fall trend, too 😉

Color, Texture & Brooch

In conclusion, by thinking outside of the box, playing with accessories, color and texture, you’ll easily be able to elevate your look!
