How to dress with the Pantone Color of the Year 2024: Peach Fuzz

Happy New Year everyone! Let’s start off 2024 by chatting about Pantone’s Color of the Year: Peach Fuzz!

A light peach square labeled "Peach Fuzz"

According to Pantone’s Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, “In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.” (source: https://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year/2024)

If you know me or follow me, you know by now that I love studying color psychology and try bringing it into all my wardrobe appointments. To me, the color Peach Fuzz comes off as a neutral calming color, yet it’s refreshing and even youthful at times. When I smell a candle that’s a Peach scent, I think the same thing! It reminds me of spring, which is never a bad thing considering we live in the Midwest and it’s dreary from Nov-end of April sometimes.

Now some of you may not like the color and that’s okay. Some of you may want to add this color to your wardrobe because one of your resolutions is to branch out and try new things! Then there may be some of you who might love this color but find it washes you out. Here are some tactics on how to include it into your wardrobe no matter the reason.

Finding the Right Shade of Peach Fuzz

When you really think about it, sure there is one true Peach Fuzz color, However, if that doesn’t work for you because maybe you hate it or maybe it washes you out, find the right shade that works FOR YOU. Don’t force it just because it’s the Color of the Year for 2024

Red is always a color that seems to be a bit tricky with my clients. This is where I grab some paint swatches, we stand in the natural light and hold up all the different shades of red until we find the right one. Think about it – There’s fire engine red, there’s a deep rich red, oxblood, raspberry, berry, burgundy, maroon, etc. etc. etc. Same goes for Peach! Do this exercise and you won’t regret it.

Side tip: As you age, your complexion and hair color change so make sure to redo this with colors when you start noticing any type of change. And please don’t be discouraged by aging; we all go through it!

How to Wear Peach Fuzz

Let’s say that you did the paint swatch exercise and you’re finding that it just doesn’t work with your complexion. Or maybe you just don’t like how you feel when it’s close to your face. Here are some tips on how you can wear the color and still embrace it:

  • Layer with it: When you put on a Peach top, it might wash you out. It’s most likely because the top is solid or the top is a pattern with the main background color being Peach. It only washes you out because it’s close to your face and there’s lots of it! Try layering with it instead and pair it with a darker color. Outfit example: Fashion jacket or a blazer left unbuttoned with a black blouse or tee underneath. By pairing it with a darker color, it breaks it up. If this tactic works, consider Peach as, what I call, your borderline color. If this tactic DOESN’T work, then move on to the next tip
  • Wear the color in your pants: Wearing a color on the bottom keeps it from washing you out because it’s away from your face. Again, if you happen to follow me, I created a post about this – Watch the fabric! The reason is that if you have any type of cellulite (which a lot of us do), it will show through. Lighter hues do that, unfortunately. Also, make sure that it’s not see-through. A lot of clothes nowadays are see-through and it doesn’t even matter if you spend a few bucks on it or you spend a lot!

Side tip: Hold the pants up to the light. You’ll easily be able to tell if it’s see-through. Sometimes you can still wear it, but make sure to wear a neutral color bottom underneath. Double check it’s still not see-through by bending over in the natural light.

  • Shoes: If wearing Peach in your top is too much or it washes you out and Peach colored pants are too daunting, wear it in your shoes! Again, because it’s away from your face and now on your feet, you may feel more comfortable. It doesn’t even have to be a solid Peach-colored shoe, it could also be a pattern with splashes of Peach in it!

  • Accessories & Jewelry: Then there’s the last resort of wearing it in your accessories and jewelry. Example: earrings, necklace, bracelet, ring, scarf, pocket square, socks or a handbag! Don’t forget that you can also wear it in your pajamas, athletic wear, etc.

So in conclusion, whether you love Peach and can’t wear it or you want to explore a new color, you can! Just find the right shade and pick the piece that best represents you AND works with you!
